Ridge and Furrow

Ridge andFurrow

Before the enclosure of fields in 1756, land was farmed in narrow strips, with oxen pulling the plough up and down the same area, which led to the creation of ridges and furrows.
Although more recent farming has degraded the ridges and furrows, they are just visible here. They support some special plants like the bulbous buttercup.
