Natural range: Western China

Introduced to France in 1901 and Britain in 1904 in the south-west.  Rare or infrequent in parks and garden tree collections.

Flowers open in May in a tiny round head about 2 cm across. Leaves are bright, light green and fragrant when they first unfold.

While here look and listen out for blackcaps in the spring.
