Natural range: South-west Europe and the Mediterranean.

With its leathery, dark green leaves forming dense heads in various shapes and sizes, this tree is excellent for hedges especially in coastal areas. The wood is hard and durable, and is used for joinery and vine props, and makes good charcoal.
