Knighton Wild and South Knighton Community Events (SKCE) are jointly organising an Open Gardens event on Saturday 7th July 2018 focussing on gardens in Knighton where the owners put an emphasis on wildlife.
The event starts at 1.00 pm, and maps are available from St Guthlac’s Church on Holbrook Road for a donation (suggested minimum £2). Gardens are open until 4.00 pm. Tea, coffee and cakes are available at St Guthlac’s from 1.15 pm until 4.30 pm. Lord Mayor of Leicester, Ross Grant, will open the event at 1.15 pm. (Ross is a City Councillor for Knighton.)
One of our members, Bev Hart, is opening her garden at 18 Wyndale Road with stalls in aid of Leicestershire Hedgehog Rescue at the same time, and maps will also be available there, so people can start there and work their way to St Guthlac’s for tea.
We hope that the churchyard at St Mary Magdalen will be open, so that visitors can see the work that has been done for wild flowers, birds and bugs and the hedge laying that we did.
We also hope to have a stall on the green space between the end of Kenwood Road and the bridge by St Mary Magdalen, where we are exploring the possibility of a more wildlife friendly approach to managing the area.
