Petition to get Leicester City Council to sign the Tree Charter

One of our members has drawn our attention to the Leicester Friends of the Earth petition on Action Network to get Leicester City Council to sign and commit to the Woodland Trust’s Tree Charter.

She says, “This petition is really  worth signing if you care about those woody things – locally lots of trees are under threat from new developments in the city.  Prebend Gardens – which I help to set up in South Highfields – has been decimated, with over 40 trees cut down!!”

The Charter for Trees, Woods and People sets out the principles for a society in which people and trees can stand stronger together. The Tree Charter was launched in Lincoln Castle on 6 November 2017; the 800th anniversary of the 1217 Charter of the Forest. The Tree Charter is rooted in more than 60,000 ‘tree stories’ gathered from people of all backgrounds across the UK.

The petition is here on Action Network.

More information about the Tree Charter is available on the treecharter.uk website.
